Ships That May Join the Party
The vessels participating in Homecoming 250 celebrations ably represent every major conflict that the Navy has fought, and themselves are an unprecedented gathering of Navy history for the Navy’s 250th birthday.
Naval aviation will also be represented at the Navy 250th celebration, with flyovers and hopefully demonstrations and static displays.
The precise aircraft will depend on operational needs, but it should be a heck of a show! We hope the Blue Angels will perform in their F/A-18 Super Hornets over the heart of the Navy 250th celebration on the Delaware. Other naval squadrons could send aircraft flying over the festivities, including Super Hornets, F-35C Lighting IIC, P-3 Orion, P-8 Poseidon, C-130 Hercules, E-2 Hawkeye, T-45 Goshawk, T-34 Mentor, CH-53E Super Stallion, SH-60 Seahawk, and V-22 Osprey. In addition to the flyovers, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft could be on static display near the 250th celebrations on both banks of the Delaware.
We hope these active-duty aircraft can be joined by flyovers of historic Navy aircraft. These could include World War II’s F4F/FM Wildcat, F6F Hellcat, F4U/FG Corsair, and F8F Bearcat fighters, the TBF/TBM Avenger, SBD Dauntless, SB2C Helldiver, and B-25/PBJ Mitchell bombers, as well as the PBY Catalina, a flying boat which could land on the Delaware.
